o   Puberty stage: 8 to 13 years old.

o   Normal menstruation about 6 days flow in 28  days cycle, about 6 Maxi pads or 10 Tampons/day (total < 80 ml/periods)

o   Estimated date of delivery using Nagele’s rule: due date= add 9 months (if pregnancy at Jan. to Mar.; or minus 3 months (if at Apr. to Dec., but add 1 year in year)), plus 7 days to the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP). Normal gestation is about 40 weeks, or 9 months + 7days. For example: if LMP is Aug.1, 2006, your due date is May 8, 2007. Plan ahead because many school districts for admission are based on date before Sept. 1.

o   Follow up with your doctor every 4 weeks at early and every week at later pregnancy.

o   Weight gain during pregnancy: 25-35 lb, about 2500 kcal/day. Folate daily and may need iron too. Leg cramps are the classic symptom of calcium deficiency in a pregnant woman.

o   Quickening at 17-18 weeks. You can start count the quickening from 30-32 weeks. In late pregnancy if <3 times/hour (not sleeping, you knew it), or <10 times/12 hours, see your doctor.

o   First time mother may take 12-18 hours for your Labor from you feel uterine contraction every 5 min and last 30-60 seconds. Multiparous mother takes less than half of the time.

o   The moral of story is ‘have lots of kids, but just don’t have lots of sex’.

o   B (breast) O (ovarian & endometria) says ’use it or lost it’

o   Hyperglycemia in the first trimester usually suggests preexisting diabetes. A fetus that is large for gestation age may indicate occult diabetes.

o   Always consulting with your doctor about the medications you taken before and during pregnancy. Quit smoking and alcohol before and during pregnancy. First trimester is very important period for pregnancy.


SECTION C

o   Grayish-white discharge with fishy/stale odor indicates bacterial vaginitis; profuse malodorous yellow-green frothy discharge indicates trichomonas; Thick white cottage-cheese texture discharge indicates yeast infection.

o   Increased exposure to estrogen (early menarche, late menopause, nulliparity) increases the risk of breast cancer. Balance between your heart and breast.

o   Any postmenopausal women with uterine bleeding require see your doctors. If a uterine mass continues to grow after menopause, it is not a leiomyoma. Need further check out.

o   Menopause median age is 50-52 years old. If you don’t have menses for a year, you are in menopause. Postmenopausal women lose the protective effects of estrogen and are at increased risk for Osteoporosis and heart disease.
